Great Northern Flats

The Great Northern Flats are located along the North Fork of the Flathead River north of Columbia Falls. A variety of collectible materials are found at this site. The site is accessed via the North Fork (of the Flathead) Road and forest service roads. The Official designation of the main road is MT 486. The first 12 miles are paved to secondary standards. Allow a minimum of thirty minutes driving time from US Hwy 2.

A note of caution - MT Hwy 486 follows Nucleus Avenue through downtown Columbia Falls, and then bears to the east when it reaches the vicinity of the BNSF Railroad. Be very conscious of the speed limits along this stretch of roadway, as it is heavily policed for speeders.

From time-to-time, new location cards will be added to this list, so you may want to check back often.
