Alder Creek is famous for three collectibles - gold, garnets, and corundum crystals.The easily recovered (relatively speaking when the term 'easy' is used) gold has been stripped out of the stream, and huge tailings piles of rock abound. Sizeable corundum crystals may be found, however, that will add to any collection. Access is via MT Hwy 287, either from Sheridan on the west, or Ennis on the east. A half hour driving time from either town should get you to the collecting area, subject to your stopping along the way at one or more historical locations, such as Virginia City or Nevada City.
