Lolo Hot Springs Area Quartz Crystals

NOTE! It has recently come to our attention that, as of April 2014, the Lolo Quartz Crystal Collecting Area has been closed to ALL collecting by the Supervisor of the Lolo National Forest under Order F14-007-Lolo-D3. View map to see the area that has been closed.

The Lolo Hot Springs area is famous for its quartz crystals, particularly its smokey quartz. The collecting area is large, and is accessed by forest service roads from US Hwy 12 near Lolo Pass. Allow 30 to 45 minutes to find a suitable digging site after you leave US Hwy 12. Shovels, picks, and some hand tools are needed, as digging is a part of the fun if you are to be successful at this site.

From time-to-time, new location cards will be added to this list, so you may want to check back often.
